Mystics vs Mercury predictions
As the Washington Mystics head to the Footprint Center to take on the Phoenix Mercury, I think we can expect Ariel Atkins to lead the charge for the Mystics. The guard has been on fire this season, averaging 14 points per game, and I wouldn't be surprised if she drops 18-20 points in this one. Julie Vanloo has also been impressive, dishing out 6.5 assists per game, and I think she'll continue to facilitate the offense well, maybe even notching 8-10 assists against the Mercury. The real question mark is Shakira Austin, who's currently listed as day-to-day with an injury. If she plays, I think she'll pull down around 8-10 rebounds, but if she's out, the Mystics' rebounding could suffer.
On the other side of the court, the Phoenix Mercury are looking fierce, led by Kahleah Copper, who's been an absolute scoring machine this season. I think she'll put up a big number in this one, maybe even eclipsing her season average of 31.3 points per game. Natasha Cloud has been dishing out 7.3 assists per game, and I think she'll continue to run the offense smoothly, maybe even getting her teammates involved for a few easy buckets. And Natasha Mack has been a rebounding machine, averaging 8 rebounds per game - I think she'll grab around 10-12 boards against the Mystics.
So, who comes out on top in this non-conference matchup? Based on their performances so far this season, I think the Phoenix Mercury have the edge. They're playing at home, where they're undefeated, and they've got the talent and momentum to take down the struggling Mystics.
